VenaSealâ„¢ Treatment (Glue Therapy for Varicose Veins)

VenaSeal is a minimally invasive, non-thermal treatment for varicose veins that uses a proprietary medical adhesive to close diseased veins. Unlike laser or radiofrequency ablation, it does not require tumescent anesthesia (multiple needle sticks) or heat, resulting in a procedure that typically allows patients to return to normal activities immediately.

How does VenaSeal work?

The procedure involves placing a very small amount of medical glue (cyanoacrylate) into the vein through a small catheter. Once the glue is dispensed, the vein walls adhere together and close. Blood is immediately rerouted to healthy veins nearby.

What are the benefits of VenaSeal?

  • No Heat: No risk of nerve injury from thermal energy.
  • Less Anesthesia: Requires only one local anesthetic injection at the access site, not multiple along the leg.
  • No Compression Stockings: Unlike other treatments, post-procedure compression stockings are generally not required.
  • Immediate Recovery: Most patients return to work or exercise the same day.
  • Ideal for: Elderly, High-Risk Patients, and those fearing needles/surgery.

Is VenaSeal right for me?

Dr. Saurabh Joshi will evaluate your specific condition using Color Doppler ultrasound. VenaSeal is ideal for patients who want to avoid multiple needle sticks or find compression stockings uncomfortable. It is considered as an ideal treatment for elderly patients with high risk diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure and cardiac issues.

Is the VenaSeal procedure painful?

Most patients report feeling only a mild tugging sensation. Because there is no heat involved, the discomfort is significantly lower than thermal ablation methods.

Will my insurance cover VenaSeal?

Coverage varies by provider. Since VenaSeal is a newer technology, some insurance plans may classify it differently than standard Laser (EVLT). Please check with our desk for a pre-authorization check.
